Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we list our top tens! This week’s topic is top ten fave in x genre and the genre I chose was contemporary YA but I only picked five.

MELINA MARCHETTA LIGHT OF MY LIFE, WORDY BEING OF MY HEART. So upset I did not read her sooner but I am definitely in her crowd of rabid fans now, her writing completely resonates with me and they’re perfect re-reading materials. They are stories that stay with you.

She is one of my favourite YA authors because those books could not be MORE perfect to me and they’ve stayed with me all these years. Sure, all her books sound pretty much the same but man, those two are the pinnacle of it and done so well.

Already on many people’s favourite authors list ever because she created such a simple story that really hits all the right notes. There’s just something very easy and enjoyable to read about her writing. I’m curious to see how she’ll take on the horror genre!

I really enjoyed Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson but Second Chance Summer cemented her on the list for me. A lovely summer read that made me bawl.

Yeah yeah, John Green. That guy.

  1. Psssssst. Elena, will you hate me if I tell you I’ve never read anything by Sarah Dessen, Morgan Matson OR John Green?

Seriously, though. I’m on the road to remedying the last two. I have The Fault In Our Stars and Second Chance Summer at home :D

I am such a complete failure at reading contemporary, no matter how many times authors and books get recommended to me. And no matter the few I do read and really ENJOY. For whatever reason, I just don’t really gravitate towards them. But I’m kind of tired of being on the outside of the fan groups for these authors… I KNOW I am missing out from the way you talk about them, Elena!

  6. Hey there!
I chose Sarah Dessen, too – isn’t she amazing? I love all of her books, ut The Truth About Forever is definitely one of my favorites!
Have you read Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits? Because you really should if you haven’t – it’s a beautiful story!

  7. I love how you set this post out! I was really lazy with my own, kind of just posted it in 10 minutes. I haven’t read either of Morgan Matson’s books but I intend to read Amy & Roger for the summer! I’d say I’d get to Second Chance Summer too, but I don’t have a copy so it’s not as high up on the TBR.

I’ve been meaning to tackle another John Green book since TFiOS. I’m thinking of going chronologically, so I’ll work from oldest (LFA) to newest (TFiOS, again). Was it LFA that was called porn? I love John’s response to that declaration. :P

Also added Stephanie Perkins to my list, of course. Also still have to read Melina Marchetta (I know, I know) and MORE from Sarah Dessen. I also want to tackle Elizabeth Scott and more from Jaclyn Moriarty. Also Laurie Halse Anderson (I didn’t really get Wintergirls and I’d like to give it a re-read with a physical copy)… And yeah, I recommend Pushing the Limits (Laura recc’d it). “Compulsively readable”, I’d call it. Also “truly heart-rending”.

I can’t imagine life without John Green being the author he is- I’ve adored both TFiOS and Alaska, and am hoping to read more of his work this month! His writing is beautiful and storylined perfectly.
I’m planning on reading On the Jellico road soon, though I’m not sure when I’ll find time to get to it… hopefully this month or next! And I’m thinking of giving Anna another try, because I couldn’t get into it when I first got it out.

Great list! I love the way you formatted it!

    Anyways… Great list!

  22. These are all authors that I WANT to read, but have not YET, except for John Green. Looking for Alaska is one my favorite books by him…and I actually got to meet him last night and get that signed and it was so truly amazing since i’d never met him before. EEEK! LOL Sorry, it’s all so new. I’ll be posting about it on my blog soon, though, I’m sure.
